Rachel Ravitz is a
singer and maggidah, a spiritual storyteller in
the Jewish mystical tradition. Audiences of all ages and
backgrounds have delighted in her sweet and inspired
approach to music and Jewish tales of wisdom. Rachel has
been involved in musical theater since the second grade.
She continued studying theater through college, until a
major life event transformed her into a passionate
spiritual seeker. While exploring the world's religions
and spiritual paths, she met her husband and artistic
collaborator, Mattisyahu Brown. With him, she developed
a unique path of heart-centered singing and
song-writing. Finally, together with Mattisyahu, she
returned to her Jewish roots with great joy. She
received instruction and empowerment as a storyteller
from mentors such as Maggid Yitzhak Buxbaum, Joanna
Featherstone, and Diane Wolkstein. The gates of holy
music and stories were opened for her by the late Rabbi
Shlomo Carlebach. |
